WCAG 2.4.5: Multiple Ways

WCAG 2.4.5 Multiple Ways is a level AA success criterion from WCAG 2.0. There is more than one way to find a page, such as navigation plus search, or a sitemap, except for steps in a process.

People who do not understand the menu still need another route to a product or a policy.

How to test

Confirm the shop has at least two of: menu, search, sitemap.

How to fix

Add search or an HTML sitemap if the menu is the only route.

Example that fails

The only way to a policy is a link in the footer of the homepage, with no search and no sitemap.

Example that passes the check

Policies are in the footer and in search results.

Shopify

Enable the search section in the header and keep policies in the footer menu.

WooCommerce

Enable product search and add a sitemap page if the menu is shallow.

WordPress

Add a search block and keep the menu.

Wix

Turn on site search and keep a second path in the footer.
