Fix missing alt text
Missing alt text means an image has no text alternative, so assistive technology cannot say what the picture is for.
Shoppers who cannot see the image miss the product, the offer, or the control the picture stands in for.
Steps
- Find images with no alt attribute.
- Write the purpose, not the file name.
- Use an empty alt only for decorative images.

Shopify
In Shopify admin open the product, then Media, and set the alt to the product name plus a variant such as colour. In Online Store, Themes, Edit code, stop any Liquid that prints the file name into the alt.
WooCommerce
In WordPress Media Library set the alt on the product image. Confirm the WooCommerce loop and single product template print that alt and not the attachment file name.
WordPress
Select the Image block and fill Alternative text. For featured images, edit the alt in the Media Library so archives pick it up.
Wix
In the Wix Editor select the image, open Settings, and replace the empty alt. Do not leave the field blank on a product photo.
