WCAG 3.2.3: Consistent Navigation

WCAG 3.2.3 Consistent Navigation is a level AA success criterion from WCAG 2.0. Navigation that repeats on multiple pages appears in the same relative order.

People learn where the cart is. Moving it between pages forces them to search again.

How to test

Compare the header on the home page, a product and the cart. The order of items should match.

How to fix

Use one header across templates.

Example that fails

The cart link is on the left on the home page and missing on the product page.

Example that passes the check

The same header order appears on every template.

Shopify

Use the same header section on all templates. Do not reorder menu items per template.

WooCommerce

Keep one header.php across the shop templates.

WordPress

Use the same navigation block in the template.

Wix

Use one site header, not a different menu per page.
