WCAG 2.5.4: Motion Actuation
WCAG 2.5.4 Motion Actuation is a level A success criterion from WCAG 2.1. Features triggered by shaking or tilting the device also work with a normal control, and the motion can be turned off.
People who cannot tilt a device, or who tilt it by accident, need a button instead.
How to test
Find any shake-to-undo or tilt feature and confirm a button does the same job.
How to fix
Add a button and a setting to disable motion actuation.
Example that fails
Shaking the phone is the only way to undo a custom builder.
Example that passes the check
An Undo button sits next to the canvas.
Shopify
Product customiser apps must offer a button, not only device motion.
WooCommerce
Disable shake actions or add a button.
WordPress
Do not bind device motion without a button.
Wix
Do not use tilt-only interactions.
