WCAG 1.4.12: Text Spacing
WCAG 1.4.12 Text Spacing is a level AA success criterion from WCAG 2.1. People must be able to increase letter, word and line spacing, and paragraph spacing, without losing content.
People who set wider spacing in a bookmarklet or user style should still see prices and buttons.
How to test
Apply the spacing bookmarklet from the WCAG understanding page. Nothing should overlap or get clipped.
How to fix
Do not set fixed heights on text containers. Let lines grow.
Example that fails
A banner with a fixed height clips the heading when line height increases.
Example that passes the check
The banner grows and the heading stays visible.
Shopify
Remove fixed heights from announcement and hero text in the section CSS.
WooCommerce
Let the hero min-height grow with content instead of hiding overflow.
WordPress
Avoid fixed-height cover blocks that clip headings.
Wix
Do not lock a text box height so small that extra line spacing cuts the words.
