WCAG 1.3.4: Orientation

WCAG 1.3.4 Orientation is a level AA success criterion from WCAG 2.1. Pages should work in both portrait and landscape, unless a specific orientation is essential.

People with devices mounted on a wheelchair may not be able to rotate the screen.

How to test

Rotate the phone. Content should reflow and the checkout should still work.

How to fix

Remove CSS or scripts that lock orientation.

Example that fails

A script shows 'please rotate your phone' and hides the shop.

Example that passes the check

The shop works in both orientations.

Shopify

Remove any orientation lock from theme.liquid and custom scripts.

WooCommerce

Delete orientation-lock scripts from the theme.

WordPress

Remove plugins or head snippets that call screen.orientation.lock.

Wix

Do not add custom code that locks orientation.
